FISM CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
In the September Newsletter (nr. 22) we reported about the successful North American Championships of Magic in Saint Louis, Missouri (July 1 – 5). I’m glad to inform you that since then two more of the Continental Championships took place.
FISM EUROPE
From 24 to 28 September, 2014, the French Magic Federation (FFAP) hosted the FISM ECM aboard the cruise-‐ship COSTA CLASSICA, sailing from Marseille and calling in at Ajaccio, Palma de Majorca and Barcelona.
The BoD has to congratulate Serge Odin and his crew, for they succeeded in pulling off a very difficult feat. Due to a false start (the original plan had to be cancelled) it was a huge challenge to get going again. One of the many problems was that the ship, originally inspected and approved, had to be replaced by the Costa Classica. A consequence of this was that the minimum stage requirements for a FISM competition, which the organizers were promised, could not be met and this caused serious problems for some of the performers. (The Stage Illusion acts were filmed the night before the sailing-‐day in a theatre near Marseille and had to be judged on a big screen on board which proved to be far from ideal too.)
Anyway, the cruise itself turned out to be a success and most of the registrants (ca. 360) fully enjoyed the experience.
There were 27 competitors for stage and 15 for close-‐up and these were the winners:

Following the rules, all first and second prize winners are guaranteed an entrance into the WCM next year in Rimini.
At the meeting of the European General Assembly on September 26th, 24 of the 57 clubs were represented.
Two new board members were elected and Priska Walther was reappointed as secretary for the next three-‐year period.
The new European Executive Board is now composed of:
-‐ President: Mr. John Pye (UK)
-‐ Secretary: Priska Walther (CH)
-‐ Board Members: Andrea Baioni (IT)
Cristina Nyman (LU) Xavier Tapias (ES)
A proposed triennial contribution of 20 € per society to cover the expenses of the EBB was accepted by a large majority of 172 of the 176 possible votes.
The candidacy of The Blackpool Magicians’ Club to organize the 2017 ECM was also adopted by a large majority of 163 votes (92,6%).
The Sociedad Espñola de Ilusionismo (SEI) took the opportunity to announce its candidature for the organization in 2020.
FISM ASIA
The FISM Asian Championship (Oct. 30th – Nov. 2nd) turned out to be a big success. It was organized together with the AMA (Asian Magic Association) Convention which hosted the event, together with the three South Korean clubs. It took place at the Songdo University Campus in Incheon, the city of the airport of Seoul, which of course was very convenient.
As was the case three years ago in Hong Kong, it was striking how much lower the average age of the attendants was than in the U.S and in Europe. There were 41 entrants for the stage competition and 23 competed in close-‐up. The overall quality was good, and none of the acts scored under FISM level. These were prize-‐winners:

A meeting of the Asian General Assembly, presided by the acting Chairman, Mr. Yuji Yasuda (S. Korea) was held on November 2nd. Most of the Asian clubs were represented.
A committee was set up to draft the definite version of the Asian Rules of Conduct and to prepare the next meeting of the General Assembly where these rules will be adopted and a new Asian Executive Board will be elected.
This committee, chaired by Mr. Yuji Yasuda, is further composed by Mr. Dai Wuqi (China), Mr. Albert Tam (China, Hong Kong), and Mr. J. Sejima (Japan).
FISM AFRICA
I have been informed by the African Board that,” unfortunately, due to venue constraints and availability, they are going to be unable to host FISM Africa in time for the competitor deadline”. However, they promised that the South African Magic Championships will be taking place from 9 to 11 Oct 2015. They are also working on the definite version of the Rules of Conduct for Africa.
FISM OCEANIA
No news reached me, neither of the Oceania Championship of Magic nor the Oceania Rules of Conduct.
